What is an infrared lamp?
The infrared lamp offers effective treatment for many complaints. The infrared rays of an infrared lamp penetrate lightly deep into our skin and warm the body evenly and balanced. The body temperature rises when using an infrared lamp.
This promotes blood circulation, stimulates metabolism, and increases heart rate. As a result, waste products are removed faster. Infrared lamps are very suitable for, among other things, muscle and joint pain.
Not only does muscle and joint pain reduce faster, but an infrared treatment can also help make the skin clearer! This is because waste products are removed more quickly. Additionally, your pores open more due to the heat. This makes your skin look healthier.
- Relieves muscle and joint pain
- Promotes blood circulation
- Helps reduce skin complaints and conditions
- Promotes healing
- Relieves stress and improves sleep quality
- Detoxification
- Suitable for warming up the body

How do you choose the right infrared lamp?
First, determine what complaints you want to address with the infrared lamp. For example, do you have muscle pain, are you stressed, do you want to improve your immune system, or do you suffer from skin complaints? Each application requires a different type of infrared radiation, but the effect of the powerful red light remains the same.
Some suppliers only sell IR-B and IR-C lamps. The problem with this is that these lamps may not be suitable for your complaints or needs at all. In some cases, an IR-B or IR-C lamp may be sufficient, but there are limitations. So think carefully about what you want to use the lamp for and whether the radiation from this lamp provides enough effect.
Infrared lamp for muscle and joint pain
When treating muscle and joint complaints with infrared, a deep effect of the infrared light is important. In that case, it is best to buy an infrared lamp with IR-A (short-wave infrared). This type of infrared radiation penetrates into the tissues. This can help relieve and stimulate muscle and joint pain as well as blood circulation.
Infrared lamp for colds
If you have a cold or want to expel another virus from your body, an infrared lamp with at least IR-B (medium-wave infrared) is best. For stomach pain, at least IR-B is also most effective.
Infrared lamp for cosmetic treatment
For cosmetic treatment or effective skin cleansing, a simple infrared lamp with IR-C (long-wave infrared) is in some cases sufficient. The heat penetrates the upper skin layers, which is enough to open the pores. This makes it easier to remove dirt trapped in your pores.

The IR-A lamp has the deepest and most multiple effects
IR-A radiation offers many benefits. Because IR-A radiation provides the most therapeutic effect, it not only penetrates deeply into your skin but also cares for your skin and fights viruses.
IR-A, IR-B, and IR-C? What exactly are these?
Infrared light is divided into 3 categories of radiation types: A, B, and C (or IR-A, IR-B, IR-C). This classification is based on the wavelength of the infrared light:
- Short-wave infrared (IR-A): wavelength from 0.78 µm to 1.4 µm (1 µm = 1000 nanometers)
- Medium-wave infrared (IR-B): wavelength from 1.4 µm to 3 µm (1 µm = 1000 nanometers)
- Long-wave infrared (IR-C): wavelength from 3 µm to 1,000 µm (1 µm = 1000 nanometers)
Summary:
Most infrared lamps emit IR-A light, or short infrared rays. This penetrates about 6 mm into the skin and thus has the deepest effect. The deep heat effect stimulates blood circulation and relieves muscle and joint pain. Medium-wave infrared radiation (IR-B) penetrates less deeply into the skin than IR-A.
The heat effect remains somewhat more superficial but is certainly effective. Think of cosmetic treatments or treatment of skin complaints and conditions. IR-C is mainly suitable for warming air, so only the upper skin layer is affected during treatment.

How should you use an infrared lamp?
When using an infrared lamp, direct the light at the specific area of your body you want to treat. Most models are also adjustable. Additionally, it is important to keep at least 40 centimeters distance from the lamp.
If you want to use the lamp on your face, for example to treat a cold, a greater distance is recommended. It is also important to keep your eyes closed.
The recommended treatment duration depends on the person, the nature of the complaint, and the area to be treated. The treatment time with an infrared lamp is maximum 12 minutes.
Furthermore, any instructions from the (possible) treating physician must always be followed. At first, it is advisable to gradually increase the treatment time. So start carefully. The skin may react excessively to the infrared light (burning).
We advise initially using the lamp for a shorter time and gradually increasing the treatment so the body can get used to it. Better to use the lamp a little shorter at first. The Liroma infrared lamps have a timer that is easy to operate with the remote control.
Always listen carefully to your body! If in doubt about use, we always recommend first contacting your doctor. Are you using medication? Then we also always recommend first contacting your doctor.
