What do IR-A, IR-B, and IR-C mean?

Infrared light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and has longer wavelengths than visible light. It can play an important role in potential health benefits. Think of muscle pain or giving an energy boost.

There are three types of IR light: IR-A, IR-B, and IR-C. But what do IR-A, IR-B, and IR-C mean? And which IR lamp should you choose? Read it here!

Note! This information is based on available scientific literature and general knowledge about light therapy and is not medical advice.

What does IR-A mean?

Infrared radiation has shortwave, mediumwave, and longwave. Another name for shortwave infrared radiation is IR-A. IR-A penetrates the skin deeper compared to IR-B and IR-C. An IR-A Infrared lamp therefore also falls under therapeutic light.

IR-A contains 700 to 1400 nm (nanometers). Shortwave Infrared light is closest to visible light. This gives it a very good therapeutic effect. It stimulates the mitochondria, leading to increased ATP production and an accelerated recovery process.

Applications of IR-A

IR-A contributes, among other things, to reducing muscle- and joint pain and wound healing. It supports cell renewal and can contribute to pain relief and reducing inflammation. Additionally, it stimulates collagen production, blood circulation, and skin repair, which is why it is often used for scars and wrinkles.

The closer the radiation is to visible light, the shorter the wavelengths and the stronger the radiation.

What does IR-B mean?

IR-B is mid-wave Infrared light. This is further from visible light, which means it has a less deep effect than IR-A. With a wavelength from 1400 to 3000 nm, mid-wave radiation penetrates the upper dermis.

Applications of IR-B

IR-B is good for blood circulation, sweating, and detoxifying the body, for example, from viruses.

What does IR-C mean?

IR-C is long-wave Infrared light. With a wavelength from 3000 nm to 1 nm, it has the longest wavelengths of the three. It is fully absorbed by the upper skin layers. It has direct therapeutic effects on cells and tissues.

Applications of IR-C

IR-C has a positive effect on relaxation, blood circulation, and general stress reliefFor a cosmetic treatment or effective skin cleansing, an Infrared lamp with IR-C is often sufficient. The warmth penetrates the upper skin layers, which is enough to open the pores.

This way, dirt clogged in your pores can be removed more easily. This radiation is good for the skin, contributes to good blood circulation, and increased perspiration. It is mainly used for relaxation and warmth.

Why is the right choice important?

It is important to know which type of Infrared light best suits your needs. This way, you can fully benefit from the advantages. An Infrared lamp with IR-A is especially known for its therapeutic effect. IR-B and IR-C mainly provide warmth and comfort.
