What exactly is red light therapy?
This form of light therapy is also called photobiomodulation . The lamps use specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light, aiming to improve cellular function.
The light penetrates the skin and can activate the mitochondria in the cells, resulting in improved cell repair, reduced inflammation and pain, and promotion of tissue healing.
Red light has a wavelength between 620 and 750 nanometers and penetrates about 5 millimeters deep into the skin. Near-infrared light has a wavelength between 750 and 1200 nanometers and penetrates deeper into the skin, about 1-3 centimeters.
Applications of light therapy for the face
Light therapy and LED masks for the face are becoming increasingly popular. It is used, among other things, for:
- Acne treatment
