Infrared Light: How Do I Choose the Right Lamp? | Liroma

Choose the lamp based on your complaint. For muscle and joint pain, IR-A (short-wave, 0.78 to 1.4 µm) is the most suitable: this radiation penetrates approximately 6 mm into the skin. At Liroma, you can choose between LED panels with red and near-infrared light and infrared lamps with heat, the latter of which use IR-A. Below, you can read which type of infrared light is suitable for each complaint and how to use the lamp: at a distance of 50 to 100 cm and for a maximum of 12 minutes.

What is an infrared lamp?

The infrared lamp with heat offers effective treatment for many complaints. The infrared rays of an infrared lamp penetrate deep into our skin and warm the body evenly and consistently. Body temperature rises when using an infrared lamp.

This promotes blood circulation, stimulates metabolism and increases the heart rate. As a result, waste products are removed more quickly. Infrared lamps with heat are very suitable for, among other things, muscle and joint pain.

Not only do muscle and joint pain subside more quickly, but infrared treatment can also help make the skin clearer! This is because waste products are eliminated more quickly. In addition, the heat causes your pores to open more. This makes your skin look healthier.

  • Relieves muscle and joint pain
  • Promotes blood circulation
  • Helps reduce skin complaints and conditions
  • Promotes healing
  • Relieves stress and promotes restful sleep

  • Suitable for warming the body

Choosing the right infrared lamp

So how do you choose the right infrared lamp?

First determine which complaints you want to purchase the infrared lamp for. For example, do you have muscle pain, are you stressed, do you want to improve your immune system, or do you suffer from skin complaints? Each application requires a different type of infrared radiation, but the effect of the powerful red light remains the same.

There are providers that sell only IR-B and IR-C lamps. The difficulty with this is that these lamps may not be suitable for your complaints or needs at all. In some cases, an IR-B or IR-C lamp may be sufficient, but there are limitations. So think carefully about what you want to use the lamp for and whether the radiation from this lamp provides sufficient effects.

Infrared lamp for muscle and joint pain

When treating muscle and joint complaints with infrared light, deep penetration of the infrared light is important. In that case, it is best to buy an infrared lamp with IR-A (short-wave infrared). This type of infrared radiation penetrates into the tissues. In addition to promoting blood circulation, this can help relieve and stimulate muscle and joint pain.

Infrared lamp for colds

When you have a cold or want to eliminate another virus from your body, an infrared lamp with heat (the Single-head 506 or the Double-head 507) is best. A lamp with heat is also most effective for abdominal pain.

Infrared lamp for cosmetic treatment

For a cosmetic treatment or effective skin cleansing, an LED panel with red and near-infrared light is the best choice; if you mainly want to open your pores, an infrared lamp with heat may be sufficient in some cases. The heat penetrates into the upper layers of the skin, which is sufficient to open the pores. This makes it easier to remove dirt trapped in your pores.

Double-head infrared lamp

The IR-A lamp has the deepest and most versatile effect

IR-A radiation offers many benefits. Because IR-A radiation provides the most therapeutic effect, it not only penetrates deeply into your skin, but also cares for your skin and combats viruses.

IR-A, IR-B and IR-C? What exactly are they?

Infrared light is divided into 3 categories of radiation types: A, B and C (or IR-A, IR-B, IR-C). This classification is based on the wavelength of the infrared light:

  • Short-wave infrared (IR-A): wavelength from 0.78 µm to 1.4 µm (1 µm = 1000 nanometres)
  • Medium-wave infrared (IR-B): wavelength from 1.4 µm to 3 µm (1 µm = 1000 nanometres)
  • Long-wave infrared (IR-C): wavelength from 3 µm to 1,000 µm (1 µm = 1000 nanometres)

In summary:

Most infrared lamps emit IR-A light, or short-wave infrared rays. This penetrates approximately 6 mm into the skin and therefore has the deepest effect. The deep-heat effect stimulates blood circulation and relieves muscle and joint pain. Medium-wave infrared radiation (IR-B) penetrates less deeply into the skin than IR-A.

The heating effect therefore remains somewhat more superficial, but is certainly effective. Examples include cosmetic treatments or the treatment of skin complaints and conditions. IR-C is mainly suitable for warming air, meaning that only the uppermost layer of skin is affected during treatment.

Using an infrared lamp

How should you use an infrared lamp?

When using an infrared lamp with heat, direct the light at the specific area of your body that you want to treat. Most models are also adjustable. In addition, it is important to keep a distance of 50 to 100 centimetres distance from the lamp.

If you want to use the lamp on your face, for example to treat a cold, a greater distance is recommended. It is important to keep your eyes closed.

The recommended treatment duration depends on the person, the nature of the complaint and the area to be treated. The treatment time with an infrared lamp with heat is 12 minutes maximum.

It is also important always to follow the instructions of your treating physician, if applicable. At first, it is advisable to build up the treatment time gradually. So start carefully. The skin may react excessively to the infrared light (burning).

We recommend using the lamp for a slightly shorter time at first and gradually building up the treatment so that the body can get used to it. It is better to use the lamp for a slightly shorter time at first. Liroma infrared lamps with heat have a timer that is easy to operate with the remote control.

Always listen carefully to your body! If you are unsure about using it, we always recommend contacting your doctor first. Do you take medication? In that case, we also recommend contacting your doctor first.
