What exactly is red light therapy?
This form of light therapy is also known as photobiomodulation . The lamps use specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light, with the aim of improving cellular function.
The light penetrates the skin and can activate the mitochondria in the cells, resulting in improved cell repair, reduced inflammation and pain, and enhanced tissue healing.
Red light has a wavelength between 620 and 750 nanometers and penetrates approximately 5 millimeters into the skin. Near-infrared light has a wavelength between 750 and 1200 nanometers and penetrates deeper into the skin, up to approximately 1–3 centimeters.
Applications of light therapy for the face
Light therapy and LED masks for the face are becoming increasingly popular. They are used for, among other things:
- Acne treatment
- Stimulating collagen production
- Against wrinkles and skin aging
- Improving skin texture and tone
- Improving blood circulation (better delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells)
- Reducing inflammation and supporting wound healing

How do I choose the right lamp for the face?
All infrared and red light lamps on this page can be used for the face. The difference between the lamps relates to various factors, including dimensions, irradiance (measured in mW/cm2), the number of LEDs, lifespan, and any included accessories.
The Armor 500, Armor 600, and our face mask (with infrared and red light) are specially designed for the face. The other products have a broader range of applications, but can also be used specifically for the face.
