Done with that back pain?
After age 40, your back no longer repairs itself naturally at night. Red light therapy helps your body resume that healing process. At home, 15 minutes a day, backed by clinical research.

You’re doing everything right. And yet it comes back.
No flare-up, no obvious trigger. Just that nagging feeling in your lower back every day—the one you’ve quietly started factoring into everything you do.
You wake up and feel it right away. In the past, you’d sleep for one night and your back would be as good as new.
The exercises do their job, but a few weeks later the nagging pain starts again.
Paracetamol relieves the pain for a while, but it doesn’t fix anything. The next day, it’s back again.
After turning 40, two things happen in your body
Reduced blood flow
Less blood flows to your muscles and connective tissue. Less blood means less oxygen and nutrients for recovery.
Less recovery energy
Your cells produce less energy. Exactly the energy your back needs at night to recover from a demanding day.
"Those two things determine whether your back recovers from a demanding day at night."Michael, founder of Liroma
Red light therapy gives your recovery a boost
Red light (630 nm) and near-infrared light (850 nm) penetrate into your muscles and connective tissue. There, they stimulate exactly the two things that decline after age 40: circulation and energy production in your cells.
Red light therapy is referred to in science as photobiomodulation and has been studied for over twenty years. The treatment is painless and non-invasive: you only feel a pleasant warmth. Unlike a heat lamp or infrared sauna, the light doesn’t only affect your skin, but penetrates into the underlying muscle and connective tissue.
Sit or lie down in front of the panel. 10 to 20 minutes, for example while reading or watching TV.
Repeat 3 to 5 times per week. Consistency is more important than intensity.
The effect builds up. Over weeks, not days. Feel free to combine it with your physiotherapy exercises: light and movement reinforce each other.
This is how you use it on your back

The light does its work where it lands, so it helps to aim the panel properly. You don’t need much precision, but the distance and duration do make a difference. Four things determine how you use it at home.
Don’t count on just a few sessions. The effect builds over weeks, not days; in the studies, treatment typically lasted two to six weeks. How much you notice it varies from person to person. Therefore, aim for three to five times a week, even during a normal busy week.
Focus on the spot that hurts, not your entire back. Place the panel at the level of your lower back, where you feel the discomfort. Keep the skin free of clothing so the light shines directly on it.
Keep a distance of 30 to 50 centimeters. The panel is designed to be used at that distance. The light comes out at a 30-degree angle: closer up, it is brighter over a smaller area; farther away, it spreads out.
Ten to fifteen minutes at a time is enough. More than twenty minutes usually adds nothing, because your cells can absorb only a limited amount of light per session. Choose a set time of day so you don't have to think about it anymore.
Three to five times per week, in addition to what you already do. Don’t stop doing your physical therapy exercises. In Djavid’s study, the group that combined light therapy with exercise therapy did better than the group that only exercised.
What clinical studies show
148 nurses with chronic back pain
Double-blind and placebo-controlled. After two weeks, the LED light group (630/850 nm) experienced less pain, less fatigue, and improved function.
Lin et al., 2020 →Better than exercises alone
61 patients, randomized. Light therapy combined with exercise therapy resulted in less pain and greater mobility in the long term than exercise alone.
Djavid et al., 2007 →100 back pain patients, significantly less pain
Half received exercise therapy plus light therapy on the lower back, while the other half received exercise therapy alone. The light therapy group had significantly less pain.
Vallone et al., 2014 →Not just one study, but the whole stack
All high-quality studies on light therapy for chronic low back pain combined: across the studies, less pain than with a sham treatment, with virtually no side effects.
Huang et al., 2015 →Red light therapy is not a substitute for medical care. Results vary from person to person. If you have persistent, severe, or radiating back pain, always consult your doctor first.
Why not just a heat lamp or sauna?
Heat feels pleasant and provides temporary relaxation. But a heat lamp primarily warms your skin. Red light therapy uses eight specific wavelengths, ranging from 630-nanometer red light to 1060-nanometer deep infrared, which penetrate deeper into the muscles and connective tissue.
An infrared sauna mainly warms your skin, which feels pleasant. However, it provides diffuse heat rather than targeted wavelengths focused on one area. A panel is aimed at your lower back for ten to fifteen minutes from a distance of thirty to fifty centimetres.
A painkiller eases the pain for as long as it works. Light works more slowly: three to five times a week, with the effect building up over weeks, not days. In the studies, treatment usually lasted two to six weeks.
Physio works—we’re not disputing that. Research shows that light therapy and exercise therapy reinforce each other: in Djavid (2007), light therapy plus exercise therapy performed better than exercises alone, and in Vallone (2014), exercise therapy plus light resulted in significantly less pain. So light is added alongside it, not used instead of it.

Which panel suits your back?
Each panel contains the wavelengths from the study (630 and 850 nm), supplemented with additional red and infrared wavelengths. The main difference is the size of the area treated in a single session.

PrimeFORCE Compact Gen5
Compact snap-in model measuring 32 × 23 cm for one area at a time. 8 wavelengths, ideal if your complaint is limited to the lower back.

PrimeFORCE Advanced Gen5
The golden mean of 64 x 23 cm: lower and upper back alternately, sitting or standing. 8 wavelengths, red and infrared can be controlled separately.

PrimeFORCE Elite Gen5
Treat your entire back at once with 92 × 30 cm. 8 wavelengths, including a free wheeled floor stand.

PrimeFORCE Multi Gen5
Full-body panel measuring 184 × 30 cm: back, legs, and shoulders in one session. 8 wavelengths, dual-chip technology, for those who want maximum coverage.
Also chosen for back and neck complaints
Just one more thing
When will I notice results?
The effect builds up over weeks. In the studies, treatment usually lasted 2 to 6 weeks, 3 to 5 times per week. Some people notice a difference sooner, while it takes longer for others. Consistency is key.
View all studiesIs red light therapy safe?
In the clinical studies, virtually no side effects were reported. The light is noninvasive and gently warms the tissue. Use the panel according to the instructions and consult your doctor first if you have any doubts or medical conditions.
How does red light therapy work? Can I combine it with physical therapy?
Yes, exactly. Research shows that light therapy and exercise therapy complement each other: the exercises strengthen your muscles, while the light supports recovery.
What is the difference compared with an infrared sauna or heat lamp?
A heat lamp or sauna primarily warms your skin. Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths (630 and 850 nm) that penetrate deeper, stimulating blood flow and cellular energy. The warmth is a pleasant side effect, not the active component.
